Let's Talk Brows...

As far as my boyfriend is concerned, eyebrows are just handy strips of hair to stop sweat getting into his eyes when he's at the gym, but oh my gosh aren't they just SO much more than that?! I never exercise, so any sweat-barrier ideas Mother Nature had when she designed eyebrows are completely lost on me, but that doesn't mean I'm going to go all Miley Cyrus on you and get rid of them. Actually, I'm more likely to go out and buy a shit ton of eyebrow products and make them more obvious than ever, which is exactly what I've done.

After all those adolescent years plucking and preening our brows, we now want them thick and natural looking again a la Cara Delevigne. I've used my fair share of brow products in the past, from Benefit to Bourjois, from creams to pencils, but I think I may have finally found a combination that actually works. My latest eyebrow must-have is the new Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara by Maybelline.

I've been using this wonderful little wand for the past week or so and I really like it. My eyebrows are kind of bushy at the beginning (?) and then neaten out towards the end, which is fine, but sometimes they have a mind of their own and the hairs don't point in the direction I want them to. The stresses of disobedient brows, you do not understand! Just brush this mascara through to style them, then when it dries, they stay put. Huzzah! It's not too thick, there's no clumps and it looks natural. Job done.

This product doesn't do much in the way of filling any gaps though, so I tend to rely on my trusty Rimmel eyebrow pencil for that. If you have disobedient, bushy brows like mine, then this is just the ticket at a very reasonable price, but if your brows are already pretty neat, well then this probably won't do much for you.

What are your brow must-haves?

Summer in the City

Coat: Topshop | T-Shirt: New Look | Jeans: Topshop | Shoes: Kurt Gieger | Belt: Accessorize | Handbag: Zara

Another new blog post, another new pair of shoes. I actually bought these studded lovelies a couple of weeks back - another frivolent purchase thanks to the impossibly tempting tasks of a fashion intern. I needed something to replace my very worn looking Topshop Vectras (yeah, remember those?!), so when I saw these in the sale I thought it must be a sign from the fashion Gods. No other explanation for it. This is an old t-shirt that I've had absolute yonks and I love it, despite not being the biggest fan of the Beatles (not because I don't like them, it's just they aren't on Spotify and I'm too used to getting music for free). In fact, this t-shirt actually landed me in a spot of trouble when I wore it to uni and my lecturer - who is, of course, a massive Beatles fan - excitedly asked me which album is my favourite, to which I replied: "err...the Greatest Hits?" wrong answer. I thought he was ready to scrap the Irish Literature seminar and give me a private Abbey Road crash course.

I wore this today (now yesterday) when Carl and I took a day trip into London. He had a couple of days holiday to take and now I've finished interning I'm bored of out my mind doing nothing, so we decided to go to The London Dungeons, which was really fun. We then wandered over to Covent Garden and had a little mooch around the shops - being sure to do some very heavy hinting in the Michael Kors shop - then, rather than go to some swanky restaurant in Knightbridge, we decided to chow down in the nearest Nandos. Yep, that's just us. All in all, it was a really lovely day. Even though my feet were freezing in my completely ridiculous choice of trouser in these subzero temperatures. None of my other jeans went with the outfit.

You can call me Queen Bee

Jumper: ASOS | Trousers: Missguided | Shoes: Topshop | Nails: Essie in Mint Candle Apple

Next week is my eleventh (and final!) week of interning - for now, at least. What will I do with my new found freedom? Well - after I've caught up on sleep - I'll be sorting out my wardrobe. Quite unsurprisingly, working as a fashion assistant makes you want to buy literally everything you set eyes on. Great for fashion inspiration, not so great for the ol' bank balance. If you hadn't already noticed from my last post, I'm a bit of an obsessive organiser and I desperately need to throw out some of my old clothes to make room for my shiny new ones and stop my mum complaining about the mess. Say hello to these ah-mazing new shoesies which quite obviously deserve a display in my room all for themselves...until I buy the next pair. Why buy boring black shoes when you can have green leopard print heels? *love*

This is an outfit I wore over the weekend when I popped into Kingston with Carl for a spot of Christmas shopping. I hadn't actually thought about what I wanted to buy anyone for Christmas though, so we ended up wandering around aimlessly, eating lunch at Byron and drinking Starbucks. Time well spent. It was actually a really nice day - almost worth sacrificing my only lie-in of the week!

I also ventured to a house party over the weekend for Halloween. Yes, two outings in one weekend - so unlike me! If you follow me on instagram (my username is NatalieCarmen_), you would have seen the most unsuccessful attempt at a spider costume ever. In my defence, it was a very last minute costume idea and it looked WAY better when I imagined it in my head! What did you get up to for Halloween?
